The world's largest capacity 270,000 cubic meter LNG tank farm has been completed.
According to an announcement by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) on June 30, six 270,000 cubic meter LNG tanks for the CNOOC Yancheng "Green Energy Port" project have all been completed in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. This project features an LNG tank farm with the world's largest single-tank capacity, independently designed and built by China. Its completion marks the full establishment of China's largest LNG storage base, holding significant importance in strengthening the energy security capabilities of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and promoting green development, Science and Technology Daily reported.
The project, located in Binhai Port Industrial Park, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, includes four 220,000 cubic meter LNG tanks and the six newly completed 270,000 cubic meter LNG tanks, bringing the total tank capacity to 2.5 million cubic meters, enough to supply 8 months of domestic gas for 10 million households. This project is a key planned initiative for China's natural gas production, supply, storage, and sales system construction and interconnection. It achieves interconnection with major national pipelines such as the "West-to-East Gas Pipeline" (a project transporting natural gas from western regions to eastern regions) and the "China-Russia East Route Natural Gas Pipeline." Additionally, it provides external transportation services via tank trucks, continuously supplying natural gas resources to Jiangsu, Henan, Anhui, Shandong, and other provinces, thereby significantly enhancing the energy storage capacity of the Yancheng "Green Energy Port" and ensuring energy security for the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Li Feng, Vice President of CNOOC Gas & Power Group, stated, "All 10 LNG tanks at the Yancheng 'Green Energy Port' were designed and built using CNOOC's proprietary technology, with a localization rate of 98.3 percent for the project. Among these, 12 technologies filled gaps in China and reached world-leading standards. The six 270,000 cubic meter LNG tanks are the first of their kind to be built globally. The tanks are approximately 65 meters high and 100.6 meters in diameter, capable of accommodating three C919 passenger aircraft. The tank capacity is equivalent to 614 standard swimming pools and can store 169 million cubic meters of natural gas." (Source: People's Daily Online Japanese Edition / Editor: YF)
